Dharma Biotechnologies is also venturing into area of production of various kinds of natural products including herbal formulations, biopesticides and biofortified food based products.
Herbal Formulations
Ayurveda -the science of life, evolved as a system of healthcare due to human quest for a healthy and long life. Several strategies are being drawn to carry forward merits of Ayurveda so as to meet the current day health needs and exploit its core strengths through research & development in India. As Traditional systems have long history of herbal usage in treatment of various diseases, the success rate of their development as therapeutics is comparatively higher than that of the synthetic compounds.
We intend to produce ayurvedic herbal formulations by availing the services of a third party manufacturing company with a GMP certified facility. Herbal formulations will be prepared for treatment of various diseases including diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, viral infections, arthritis, respiratory infections. Besides, herbal formulations will be prepared for boosting immunity, relieving stress, enhancing liver and spleen health and for treatment of acidity and indigestion.
Biopesticides
Despite the severe human health hazard and environmental pollution, chemical pesticides are still being used extensively in India. Harmful effects of these chemical pesticides has necessitated the development of new safe and effective alternate pesticide such as biopesticides to control various agricultural insect pests. Plant derived biopesticides such as rotenoids, pyrethrins are highly effective and are also biodegradable in nature.
Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane (DDT) has been banned in almost all the countries in the world as it is considered a major threat to human health and ecosystem because of its mutagenic nature. But, DDT is still being used in India to control mosquitoes. DDT should be replaced with a safe and more effective microbial pesticides such as crystal protein of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp israelensis.
We intend to produce various microbial and plant based biopesticides for controlling agricultural insect pests and insect vectors such as mosquitoes.
Biofortified Food Products
Micronutrients such as essential vitamins and minerals are required in low amount by the body for proper growth, development and various physiological functions. Deficiencies of micronutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin A, iodine and folate is responsible for extensive morbidity and mortality in developing countries including India, with pregnant women and children under five years of age at the highest risk. Consumption of biofortified foods and food products enriched with micronutrients have tremendous potential to reduce micronutrient deficiencies in India and thus reduce the mortality rate to great extent.
We intend to produce food products based on biofortified crops including millets, soyabean and corn.
